What are the Correct Hubs for a 2,000 lb Axle?

Question:

I have a 93 Skamper 17x tent trailer it has a 2000 lb axle what is the correct 5 lug hub set for this and it is a bad idea to run a 215/65r16 all terrain. The trailer has an axle flip kit and longer shackles.

In order to choose the correct hub assembly, you are going to need to know a few things. The 2,000 lb axle and five lugs are a great place to start and considerably narrows down what else you need to know. One of those things is the wheel size, which is going to range from 8 to 15 inches.

The bearing numbers are the final thing you will need to find out, and to do so, just remove one of the old hubs and find the number stamped into the bearings, which will be either L44643 or L44649. If you cannot find those numbers, you you will need to measure the spindle with a digital caliper at the bearing seats. Take a look at the link to the help article on wheel bearings I have attached which should help you out.

Once you know if your trailer uses # L44643 or # L44649, let me know and I will be happy to recommend a replacement hub and drum assembly for you.

As for running 215/65r16 tires, I cannot recommend the use of tires for passenger vehicles on your trailer. Also, 16-inch wheels are not going to work with a 2,000 lb hub assembly; the wheel bolt patterns are not compatible because 16-inch wheels are going to have either six or eight lugs. If you take a look at the linked article on trailer tires, that should help you determine what you are going to need.
