Compatibility Of Friction Sway Control On A Boat Trailer

Question:

Is the friction control away bars for an A frame style of tongue or will it also work on a straight tongue. Im trying to control some of the sway of a 19 ft boat behind a fifth wheel trailer. The tongue is straight for about 30 in before it A frames. Thank you for any answers

There are pole tongue adapters like the Reese Pole-Tongue Adapter for Weight Distribution Systems - 7,500 lbs GTW, 750 lbs TW # RP3280 and the Reese Pole-Tongue Adapter for Weight Distribution Systems - 14,000 lbs GTW, 1,400 lbs TW # RP58393 that allow a straight tongue trailer to use the sway control of a weight distribution system. The issue you face with your trailer is these need to be mounted 29-30 inches back from the hitch ball.

That means this system may work with your trailer and a weight distribution system, but it may not work for your system because the bars may hit your A-frame when taking corners. Fit will really depend on the angle of your a-frame following the pole tongue.

Friction sway control bars like # 83660 are not compatible with a straight tongue trailer.
