Disc Brake Conversion For 2016 Grand Design GD Momentum With Lippert 7000 lb Triple Axle

Question:

Good Day, 2016 Grand Design GD Momentum w/ Lippert 7000# axles triple axle We know that there are issues with the standard brake system used by Lippert. Grease issues being number one, but stopping a 22k lb. 5th wheel is another. Ive seen other owners convert to disc brakes. First -what info do you need to get the correct parts? Can you put together a list of items to make it a complete package? Last, upgrading the 3 axle suspension- it has the equaflex pivots now which I believe have the plastic bushings vs. bronze. What will I need for that too?

For your Lippert 7,000 lb axles on your 2016 Grand Design GD Momentum triple axle trailer, I recommend the Kodiak Disc Brake Kit - 13" Hub/Rotor - 8 on 6-1/2 - E-Coat - 7,000 lbs # K2HR79E. These fit the industry standard number 42 spindles. For this you will need the inner bearing # 25580 and outer bearing # 02475 along with oil seal # 10-63. I recommend you check the bearing diameters to make sure they match your spindles.

For your disc brakes you will need a different actuator capable of higher psi. For this system including your brake lines and breakaway, I recommend the HydraStar Electric-Hydraulic Actuator w/ Line Kit for Disc Brakes - 1,600 psi # CAR-HBA16-2. To add the extra brake lines, I recommend the Hydraulic Line Kit, 3rd Axle - Drum and Disc # 9579-01.

For your suspension bushings I recommend the bronze bushings # D014-077-00. These work best with the Wet Equalizer Bolt with Locknut and Grease Zerk for Double-Eye Springs - 3" Long # 126B2, and make a really nice system.
