To wire a backup camera into your vehicle so that it only comes on when in reverse, will require tapping into your reverse function wiring.

If you choose to use this as your power source, I recommend you use the Firestone Fuse Circuit Tap Kit # F2526 and run wire like the 16 gauge # DW02359-1 to the camera wire.
Another method of installation requires splicing into the wire at the tail light of your vehicle. You can use a circuit tester like # PTW2993 to determine the reverse light function power wire while a trusted friend puts your vehicle in reverse and stays on the brake. I recommend using wheel chocks as well for safety. This product includes quick splice connectors, but you can also use heat shrink butt connectors like # DW05744-5 for a water and grime tight seal.
