Recommended Roof Rack And Rooftop Cargo Carrier For 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe

Question:

I am about to pull the trigger on buying a 2017 Santa Fe with moonroof. What rooftop cargo carrier can I buy for the maximum additional storage space? Should I be getting factory crossbars or is it better to get after market? Are there any considerations with the Santa Fe that I may not considered in this regard? Thanks for your wisdom!

For your 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe, you can get a factory roof rack and carry a rooftop cargo carrier without issue. The aftermarket roof racks can give you more diversity for other uses. If you go this route, I recommend the Rhino-Rack roof rack consisting of the Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero Crossbars - Aluminum - Black - 54" Long - Qty 2 # RRVA137B-2 and the Rhino-Rack SRB Legs for Vortex Aero Crossbars - Flush Factory Side Rails - Qty 4 # RRSX032. This system gives you aero crossbars that are lockable to secure your system using the Rhino-Rack Locking Endcaps for Vortex Aero Crossbars - Metal Cores - Qty 4 # RRVA-LEC4. These bars have a channel at the top that allows certain accessories to mount to the bars without the hardware around them or underneath for a more secured and clean looking application.

The biggest and newest addition to the rooftop cargo boxes is the Thule Motion. This is a really nice box that I recommend for you and your new Santa Fe. The Thule Motion XT Rooftop Cargo Box - 22 cu ft - Black Glossy # TH629906 or Titan glossy color # TH629907 will give you dual side access and mounts to your crossbars with PowerClick clamps. It is made of a durable ABS plastic. It has a SlideLock system with One-Key System locks to ensure your cargo is secure. The lid locks automatically once it is completely closed and a red indicator lets you know if it isn't closed securely. It has a tapered tail end to provide better hatch clearance

As far as other things to know about your 2017 Santa Fe, there are a few things to note. The towing capacity of 5,000 lbs if you plan to use it for towing a trailer. If you are a camper, this vehicle cannot be flat towed. If you have the AWD it needs to be trailered if you have the FWD you can use a tow dolly. It will allow you to use a 2 inch trailer hitch receiver, so you'll have a lot of accessory options too.
