Installing Submersible Back-up Lights On A Boat Trailer

Question:

I would like to add two additional backup lights to my boat trailer. How do I wire the new lights into the existing wiring so that the new lights only come on when in reverse?

To add additional backup lights like GloLight LED Backup Light for Truck or Trailer - Submersible - 22 Diodes - Oval - Clear Lens - Qty 1 # BUL111CB, you will want to splice into the reverse function wire on your trailer. For a 7-way, this is typically the purple wire, and for a 5 way, it is typically a blue wire. I've attached an article to assist. You will want to check for function before splicing as you can't always trust color. You can use a circuit tester like # PTW2993 for function.

I recommend using heat shrink butt connectors like the Deka Heat Shrink Butt Connector - 16-14 Gauge - Nylon Insulation - Blue - Qty 10 # DW05744-10 for best connection and water tight function.
