Recommended Weight Distribution System For 2014 Ford F-150
Question:
I am considering buying a travel trailer that weighs 5300 lbs. dry and has a tongue weight of 625 empty. I would be towing it with a 2014 F-150 4X2 Suoercrew with 5 L V-8. I am interested in a weight distribution hitch to make towing safer, and eliminate any potential sway. What model would you recommend? Would I need to modify the 2inch factory hitch receiver already attached to the frame? Any other considerations I should look into? Please let me know. Thank you

For your 2014 Ford F-150, you will not need to modify your factory hitch to use a weight distribution system with the travel trailer you mentioned. When looking at weight distribution, you want to consider the loaded weight of your trailer tongue as well as any cargo behind the rear axle of your truck to determine the total tongue weight. You want that total tongue weight to fall as close as possible to the middle of the tongue weight range of your weight distribution sysem.
With the dry weights you gave, I can give you an idea of what system to use and give you a recommendation based on an educated guess of loaded range.
If your system falls into the loaded range of 500-1000 lbs, I recommend the Reese Steadi-Flex Weight Distribution System w/ Sway Control - Trunnion - 10K GTW, 1K TW # RP66559. This system uses hot folled and tapered trunnion spring bars along with bolt on brackets with automotive-grade friction pads to control sway. The system is well made and works extremely well as you can see from the attached videos.
I recommend using a hitch lock like the Bulldog Lifelong Trailer Hitch Lock for 2" Hitches - Flush - 2-1/2" Span - Stainless # BD580402, and you will need a hitch ball like # A-90 for a 2 inch option or # 19286 for a 2-5/16 inch option.
