Running Wiring For Installation Of Brake Controller On 2017 GMC Savana 3500

Question:

My 2017 gmc savana has a factory tow package. I have the brake controller installed with your video but there is no power to the brake controller under dash. The gm trucks have a red wire that goes on positive of fuse box. Your videos do not show were the vans wire should be located. Thank you

There are some models of the 2017 GMC Savana with the 7-Way tow package and the blue output brake wire is already run from the back to the front. You can find that under the dash near the emergency brake pedal.

Others will need a wiring kit to run wire to the battery. This can require drilling a hole in the firewall to run the wire. You may use the wiring kit, part # 5506. This kit includes the 20, 30, and 40 amp circuit breakers.

This will provide the power source and ground for the wiring to the brake controller. You will need to test the wires from the brake pedal switch of your vehicle to find a circuit that has voltage only when the brakes. This will be the circuit you will run the red wire to.

If you can locate the wire that is connected to the 7-way that only shows power when the brake pedal is pressed you can splice into it with the Blue wire from the brake controller.
