Where Should a Transmission Cooler be Mounted on a 2002 Acura MDX
Question:
When mounting this cooler, do I do so right up against the radiator or to the grill so there is space between the trans cooler and radiator? Either way, how does this affect the performance of the radiator? Does it put the engine at risk of overheating due to the trans cooler blocking the air flow to the radiator?

There are actually 3 possible places you could mount the transmission cooler, # D13503. The first location is in front of the A/C condenser core and is the most efficient place.
The second most efficient location is between the core and the radiator. You would place the cooler against the radiator. The cooler comes with little pads that go between the two components but they do not separate them very much. Despite this, the area of the radiator that will be blocked is small enough that it will not adversely affect the performance of the radiator.
The least efficient place is between the radiator and engine. If this location is used, a larger cooler is recommended to make up for the lost efficiency. I have included a link to our FAQ article on transmission coolers and a link to a video showing a typical installation and a link to the recommended coolers for a 2002 Acura MDX
