Recommended Weight Distribution System For Towing 2018 Rpod Trailer
Question:
We just purchased a 2018 RPod 180 and will be pulling it with a 2016 Toyota Tacoma 4x4 Sport with a V6 engine. This is our first trailer. We are wondering if sway control is necessary. Also do we need weight distribution? If the answer is yes to one or both of these question can you please make a recommendation on what would fit our needs the best. Thanks

The best way to determine what system will work for you is to know what your total tongue weight is. The total tongue weight is the tongue weight of your fully-loaded-ready-to-tow trailer added to the weight of any cargo you place behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. You will then want to find a system where your total tongue weight falls near the middle of the tongue weight range for the system. Getting a system that is too small will be useless, but getting a system that is too big will result in a stiff, uncomfortable experience.
Based on my research I found that the RPOD 180 has a dry weight of 2,662-lbs and can carry cargo weighing up to 1,170-lbs so that puts the total weight at about 3,832. Your tongue weight should be somewhere between 350 and 575 lbs.
The weight distribution system I recommend is part # EQ37060ET. This system is designed to work with tongue weight between 200 and 600-lbs. It has built-in sway control that helps keep the trailer from moving around when in high winds or when passing large trucks on the highway.
I also recommend part # EQ70-00-4800. This is a thin-walled socket that helps when installing the hitch ball.
