According to the owner's manual for the 2006 Buick Lucerne it has a gross trailer weight capacity of 1,000 pounds maximum. It does not say that a transmission cooler is required. However, a transmission cooler is always a good idea, especially when towing, to keep the fluid cooler so the transmission is less likely to get damaged or wear out any faster than normal.

If you do decide to install a cooler the most popular option for models with the 4.6 liter V8 is # D13503. And we also recommend fitting # D13035 to avoid having to cut and flare transmission lines.

If you do not already have a trailer hitch I recommend # C45520 plus the recommended ball mount # C45520. Use pin and clip # F-4. For a 1-7/8 inch ball use # 19256 and for a 2 inch ball use # 19258. And for trailer wiring you can use Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness # 56047 to add a 4-Way flat connector to the rear of the vehicle.
