Will a Curt Weight Distribution System Fit on a Trailer with an I-Beam Frame
Question:
Can this weight distributing hitch be used on a trailer with an I-beam frame?

Expert Reply:
I-beam trailer frames present a bit of a problem when looking for weight distribution systems. It will work there is just a little bit of work that has to be done on the trailer for a system to work properly.
To use Curt system # C17052 or a similar system you would need to have steel plates 5 or 6 inches wide welded to the trailer frame by an experienced welder in the area where the weight distribution brackets mount on the trailer. Basically the frame will have to be boxed in those locations.
If you modify the trailer as described then you can us a weight distribution system. For the Curt system you will need a compatible ball. Use # 40038 for a 2 inch or # C40030 for a 2-5/16 inch.
