What Would I Need to Wire a Prodigy Brake Controller # 90185 to my 2005 Toyota Tacoma Prerunner
Question:
My husband has a 2005 Toyota Tacoma Prerunner. I just bought him a Prodigy 90185 Brake Controller to install in it. Is there a plug-n-play wiring system that works with his truck? If so, where can I purchase it? Does it come with the instructions for installation. There is a connector under the dash on the left of the steering wheel, Im assuming it is for the connector for the brake controller. Any info would be helpful. Thank you.

The connector you found could be the brake controller wiring harness If your 2005 Toyota Tacoma Prerunner has the factory tow package. If so, then you will have to use the Toyota connector that should have came in your vehicles glove box to connect from your Prodigy Brake Controller - Proportional, part # 90185, to your 2005 Toyota Tacoma Prerunner. If you are missing this connector you will need to go to a Toyota dealership to track one down. I would also recommend having them look at the connector that you found to make sure it is the brake controller connector.
If your Tacoma does not have the tow package you will need to do the following in order to connect your # 90185 to your truck. If your truck has a four way trailer wire present at the rear of your vehicle you can skip the next step.
You will first need a Plug-N-Tow Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4 Pole Flat Trailer Connector, part # 33355, if your truck does not have a factory four way present at the rear of your vehicle.
Once you have a four way present at the rear of your vehicle you will need to install a Brake Controller 7 and 4 Way Installation Kit, part # ETBC7, onto your vehicle and you will be ready to go. I attached a link below to a video of an ETBC7 being installed on a vehicle that you might find helpful as well as a link to installation instructions for wiring up a vehicle for a brake controller from scratch that you might find helpful also.
I attached installation instructions for the # 90185 below as well.
