Recommendation For Adding Brakes To A Wolverine Trailer With 3500 lb Dual Axles
Question:
I have a Wolverine trailer with 3500lbs dual axles. The wheels are 12inch with 74inch spring to spring distance. I would like to exchange one axle with your axle/brake combo but I do not see any 3500lb rated axels and a brake that will fit a 12inch wheel. Any thoughts? My current axle does not have a mounting flange. Im considering having a welding shop mount a flange to the axle and then using a 7drum if this will work. I would rather not reduce the trailer capacities by installing a 2000lb axle so that a brake would fit the 12wheel. Any harm in running a 7inch on a 3500lb? Even if the brakes are small, some brake is better than none. Im hauling a fairly light load. Any advice would be welcome. Thank you

Great questions. I do not recommend using a smaller brake assembly. The 7 inch hubs will not fit on your axles and insufficient size can overheat. My recommendation is to go with the Dexter Axle with brakes # 35545E-ST-89 and to change out your wheels to 13 inch. This will give you upgraded capacity and functionality.
For wheels, I recommend the Karrier ST175/80R13 Radial Trailer Tire with 13" Aluminum Wheel - 5 on 4-1/2 - Load Range D # AM32001HWTB. I've linked our page to all your combination options.
