Will Adding Different Tires Increase the Speed Rating for my Trailer

Question:

I am thinking about buying a very small trailer from Northern Tools. However, it is rated at 45 MPH. If I add the proper tires, can it be towed at 65 MPH? Perhaps a 14 inch bias tire? Im only loading 250lbs on this small aluminum trailer.

If you were to purchase a 14-inch tire, like the Provider # TTWA14RWS, which is rated for 81 mph max speed, you will still need to stay within your trailer limit of 45 mph. Just like when we tell customers that their towing weight limit is decided by the piece of equipment with the lowest weight capacity, it is the same case with a speed rating, or any rating for that matter. For smaller trailers manufacturers have to consider the type of axle and the use and construction of the trailer when they add a speed rating. It doesn't just apply to the tires that are on the trailer.
