Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver For 1998 Chevy K3500

Question:

I am thinking about buying a friends 98 k3500. It does not have a hitch or plug on it. Why someone would not have one on a 3500 is a mystery to me. I am confused about harnesses. I know I need one for a brake controller but what and where do I start to go back with a harness from the cab to the back of the truck and possibly an extra plug in the box for a 5th wheel, just in case. Thank you.

For a 1998 Chevrolet K Series 3500 Pickup, I recommend the Draw-Tite Ultra Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver Class IV - 2" # 41901. This is an extremely sturdy hitch that is easy to install. It will fit a standard or step bumper. For a roll-pan bumper, use # 41522.

For your wiring, I recommend the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118315 to get a 4 way connection. Then you will want to add the # ETBC7 to get your 7 way connection along with the circuit breakers, connectors, and wire. While you are at that, you may want to splice in the # 20023 to get that 7 way in the bed of your truck too.

For a brake controller, I recommend using the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195 which will give you an LCD screen, adjustability for your driving preferences and 3 levels of boost. Why not avoid having codes and use a system that can tell you what is happening in real time? This is a great option whether you are towing for the first time or the hundredth time this year.

For a ball mount, I recommend the Curt Adjustable 2-Ball Mount - 2-1/2" Hitch - 6" Drop, 5-1/4" Rise - 20K # C45902. To secure your investment, I recommend using # C23556.
