I would like to buy the hitch code 9465-40, however I need to be sure that this hitch fits my 1996 chevy silverado 8 foot bed pick up.

The Draw-Tite gooseneck hitch # 9465-40 is a confirmed fit on your 1996 Chevrolet C/K Series Pickup so long as it is NOT the Crew cab model. If you have the Crew cab then instead you will want to use the B&W gooseneck kit # BWGNRK1000. Videos for both kits are linked for you.
For a 7-way wiring harness for the truck bed you can use part # 20023.
