Testing Tekonsha Primus Trailer Brake Controller TK90160 Without Having to Tow the Trailer
Question:
I have just finished installing the Tekonsha Primus IQ brake controller. My understanding is that the brake controler only sends power when the vehicle is in motion. How do I test the brakes without moving the vehicle? I havent insured my trailer, yet.

You can test your Tekonsha Primus Trailer Brake Controller # TK90160 without the trailer connected by applying a circuit tester like # PTW2993 to the 7-way socket on the vehicle while a helper activates the controller's manual override lever. You will want to have the Primus' power and boost both set to maximum gain when you test.
You will apply your circuit tester ground to the 7-way pin at the 7-o-clock position as you view the socket; apply the tester probe to the pin at the 5-o-clock position while the controller is engaged. Please refer to the linked photo. If the Primus' output voltage appears on the pin you know it is functioning properly.
