5-Bike Hitch Rack with Capacity for More Than 150-lbs

Question:

Hi, I am looking for a bike rack to carry 5 bikes. I have looked at the Yakima, Thule and Curt. I have one bike that is 40-42 pounds, 3 that are about 35 lbs, and one that is about 22 lbs. I am mounting this to a 2016 Toyota Sequoia. I am a bit concerted about the Thule having the max weight of 150 because I am over that, but really like the clips on the top. Which of your racks would you recommend for what I describe above? Thanks.

The Thule Apex XT 5 Bike Rack # TH9026XT does have a 150-lb total bike weight limit which is not quite enough for your 5 bikes' combined weight of about 167-lbs. Most hitch racks top out at this same 150-lbs. But the Curt Premium 5 Bike Rack # C18065 stands apart with its 225-lb total weight capacity.

The Curt Premium 5 features dual folding arms that taper, which lets them fit more types and sizes of bike frames, reducing the need for adapter bars like # UB01. And the mast tilts for easy access to your vehicle's rear cargo area. Please review the linked video for more.

When loading your bikes you will definitely want to load the heavy bike first, so it is closest to the hitch, which will help reduce stress on the carrier and hitch and also reduce the tendency for the rack to wobble. The lightest bike should go on last.

You may care to add a cable lock # e98891 to secure the bikes to the rack.
