Parts Needed to Flat Tow 1994 Geo Tracker Behind Motorhome

Question:

We are buying a 1994 geo tracker to tow behind our truck camper. Can you make a recommendation for a tow system to do this. I would like to keep the cost as reasonable as possible but be safe. Wire kit, tow bar with attachments, brake kit. Thanks.

We can help you get set for flat towing your vehicle behind your RV. A great starting point for you is the linked article on flat towing and the related articles on braking systems and hitch adapters. Each of the items required for safe and legal flat towing is described in the flat towing overview article.

The parts needed include a tow bar, safety cables, a wiring/lighting kit of some kind, a high/low hitch adapter, sometimes a wiring extension and then also base plates and a braking system for the towed Tracker. We do always recommend checking your vehicle owner's manual for any guidance or requirements for flat towing your particular vehicle. Check your manual's index under the heading recreational towing.

Let's start with base plates. For an economical option you can use the Roadmaster kit # 118-1 which has fixed drawbars that cannot be removed. Please note these and other base plates will work as long as your Tracker does not have brush guards.

The most popular tow bar for your car is the Roadmaster Tracker # RM-020. For safety cables use # RM-643; their coiled design helps prevent dragging. The easiest lighting option is magnetic lights such as # TL21RK which take only moments to install. The braking system I suggest is the Blue Ox Patriot Wireless System # BLU37TR. This item is not inexpensive but it the best option for easy set-up and portability.

For a high low adapter to keep your tow bar level you can use the linked article and linked product page to select one suited to your RV and Tracker.
