How Much Weight Can be Put on a Draw-Tite Front Receiver Hitch for a 2005 Dodge Ram

Question:

Im thinking about the 65046 hitch but not sure how weight I can put on it. I have a 1966 Honda CT90, 180lbs. Will this hitch hold and what are the pros and cons. I tow a 34foot 5th Wheel as well.

Expert Reply:

Draw-Tite Front Mount Trailer Hitch Receiver # 65046 is rated for 500 pounds vertical load. That is the most weight you can suspend from the hitch. So provided that your 1966 Honda CT90 and the carrier it is on weigh under 500 pounds they will be within the capacity of the hitch.

Carrying anything at the front of the vehicle can have 3 effects:

1) The item could block the vehicle lights
2) The item could restrict air flow to the motor
3) The item can reduce driver visibility

The pro is that you would be able to bring the Honda with you despite towing a 5th wheel trailer since there isn't an easy/safe way to carry it on the trailer.
