If you do not have a 4-way harness on your TJ, I first recommend the T-One Wiring Harness, part # 118409. This is an easy installation. You just find the connection points beneath the rear bumper.
For a 7-way connector you will need part # ETBC7. Usually, a 7-way connector is used because the trailer has brakes. If that is the case then you may be interested in a brake controller like part # 90885. This is our most popular brake controller because it is easy to install and operate. I have attached a drawing that shows how a brake controller and 7-way wiring is installed. If you are not going to use the brake function or need auxiliary 12V power or reverse lights you can cap those wires and move them out of the way. The trailer connector with the # ETBC7 has a 4-way connector and a 7-way plug included.
When working with electrical connectors I recommend using dielectric grease like part # 11755. This keeps dirt and moisture out of the electrical connections and helps prevent corrosion.
