Roof Rack Recommendation for 2016 Ford Explorer and Weight Capacity with Moonroof
Question:
Looking to purchase crossbars/roof rack for my 2016 Ford Explorer. However, I am confused with the max rating of 45lbs given I have a moonroof. Does that mean regardless of the crossbar I chose I am limited to a weight of 45 lbs? What is the most cost effective items to purchase to achieve an end result of a roof rack? Thanks.

You are correct in your assumption. Since Ford limited your 2016 Ford Explorer's roof weight capacity to 45 lbs that means that regardless of what roof rack you install you still can only have 45 lbs of weight on it.
So if you went with the Thule roof rack that consists of part numbers # TH711420, # TH460R, and # THKIT3151 you would only be able to carry 34 lbs of roof accessories since this roof rack will weigh 13 lbs.
