Can Tekonsha Primus Brake Controller Be Installed With Mounting Bracket On Bottom
Question:
I am interested in buying the primus broke controller. I want to mount it on top of an accessory that i have in the cup holder. My question is can this controller be mounted with the bracket on the bottom. I have only seen pictures of it mounted with the bracket on top. This is going in a 2012 FJ Cruiser pulling a small camper trailer, 1 axel.

When mounting the Tekonsha Primus IQ Trailer Brake Controller, part # TK90160, you will want to make sure the accessory you said you have in your cup holder is secure. The mounting bracket can be used on the bottom as you mentioned. The only issue you may have is interference with the manual override button so you want to make sure you have full access to it.
I have attached a drawing that shows the acceptable vertical and horizontal positions for mounting the Primus you can check out. I have also attached a link to an installation video for this brake controller you can take a look at.
Since there is no plug-in adapter available for your FJ Cruiser, you will need part # ETBC7 to install the 7-way at the back of your vehicle for the brake controller. The installation video shows how the # ETBC7 is installed as well. I have attached a drawing that show how the wiring is run for a brake controller and the # ETBC7.
If you do not have a 4-way connector on your Toyota I recommend part # 118405.
When working with electrical connectors I recommend using dielectric grease like part # 11755. This keeps dirt and moisture out of the electrical connections and helps prevent corrosion.
