Installing a Brake Controller on a 2012 Nissan Frontier with the Factory Plug Missing

Question:

I have a 2012 Nissan Frontier with the factory tow package. i want to install the Primus IQ controller in the truck, but the previous owner removed the plug from under the dash. Can you please help me with the proper wiring diagram? The wires I have under the dash with no plug attached are as follows: red, brown, black, light green, and orange. The primus IQ has blue, white, red, and black. Thanks in advance for your help.

Since auto manufacturers use different color wires and do not stick to one specific color all the time, the best way to install any electrical components is to use a circuit tester like # PTW2993 and test the wires by function and not by color.

On a Nissan typically, the stop light wire is Red with a Green tracer, but using the circuit tester to find the wire that only shows power when the brake pedal is depressed is the wire you are looking for. You will want to connect the Red wire on the vehicle to the black wire on the controller.

The black wire on the Frontier to the white wire on the brake controller which is the ground. The brown wire with a white tracer would be connected to the blue wire on the brake controller.

These functions should be tested before connecting them to the brake controller to ensure proper function. The above listed is known for the wiring from the Titan, so you can use this as a guide when testing.

I have linked a diagram that shows you how the brake controller should be hooked up, be sure to test the wires before connecting them together.
