Troubleshooting Fifth Wheel Camper Wheel Hubs That Are Hot
Question:
The hub encasing the wheel bearings seems to get hot on my 5th wheel camper. My question is what what is the upper temperature that would be considered safe after traveling for three hours or so on a 95 degree day?

While there is no specific temperature listed for wheel bearings on a camper after driving, if the wheel bearings are extremely hot that can be caused by a couple things. The bearings may not be greased enough or are too tight, or the trailer could be overloaded.
Another thing may be the grease being used on the bearings. If multi-purpose grease is used it can break down and the result would be elevated temperature. I recommend using a high temp grease like part # L11380. You will want to check the bearings and other components in the hub to make sure everything is installed and show no signs of damage.
