Can Aftermarket Brake Controller Install on a 2009 Chevy Silverado with Integrated Controller
Question:
I have a factory integrated brake controller and I want to install an aftermarket controller. The wiring is very straightforward thanks to your video. However, the one question I have is ...Do I have to disconnect anything on my integrated controller before I connect up the aftermarket one? Also, which controller would you recommend for 2 axle electric brakes that does not have to be permanently mounted for use? Thank you.

I attached a help article that covers exactly what it takes to install an aftermarket brake controller in a Silverado like your 2009 model that has an integrated controller. The only wiring you have to undue is the blue wire of the brake output circuit on the 7-way and wire the aftermarket controller to it instead.
For a brake controller I would recommend the Prodigy P2 Brake Controller part # 90885. This is our best selling brake controller because of how well it works and how easy it is to setup. This is a proportional brake controller that senses the amount of braking the tow vehicle is applying and applies a proportionate amount to the trailer brakes.
