What is Towing Capacity for 2017 Chrysler Pacifica

Question:

I am thinking of purchasing a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica Limited however, their tow package only offers a class ll trailer hitch receiver from the factory, which is rated at 3,600lbs with a max tongue wt of 300lbs. I would want to swap out their factory installed hitch with your class lll # e98903 hitch primarily to get a minimum of a 500lb tongue weight rating. Will I be able to simply unbolt the class ll and bolt in your class lll? Also, what do you mean when you say Maximum GTW when used with weight distribution: 5,000 lbs? Thank You

For your 2017 Chrysler Pacifica we have the etrailer Class 3 Trailer Hitch part # e98903 which has a pretty high towing capacity of 400 lbs of tongue weight and 5, 00 lbs total trailer weight which goes to 500/5000 when used with weight distribution. One thing you have to consider is that a towing capacity for a vehicle is basically the lowest rated component in the setup. So, this hitch has a high capacity, but your vehicle may be rated much lower and that would be how much you could tow. You would need to check the owner's manual of the vehicle to determine this.

From the research I did the max towing capacities for this vehicle are what you listed already. 3,600 lbs total trailer weight and 300 lbs tongue weight if equipped with tow capacity and then 1,500 lbs total trailer weight if not equipped.

The etrailer part # e98903 would bolt in place of the factory hitch but it would not give you additional towing capacity. Instead, it will give you a 2 inch opening which offers more flexibility for hitch accessories like bike racks.

A weight distribution system is a product designed to help distribute the tongue weight of a trailer so that it can handle and stop better when towing. It raises the capacity of the hitch, but this higher capacity will not matter since your vehicle has the lowest capacity.

For trailer wiring you then would want the part # 118712.
