Recommended Weight Distribution Hitch to Pull Jayco Jay Feather

Question:

I am towing with 2009 Dodge journey, with a towing package. I have a professional installed trailer break controller and hitch. I am buying a 2015 Jayco Jay Feather 17z. I need to buy a weight distribution hitch. I dont know the ball size of the trailer yet. Do you have a recommended weight distribution hitch for my setup? Thanks

Thanks for the info on what trailer you are getting and there is a great option for a weight distribution system to use with your 2009 Dodge Journey and 2015 Jayco Jay Feather x17z. I highly recommend the the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution # FA92-00-0600 because it will keep you level and control trailer sway with its spring bars, uses clamp-on brackets so no drilling is required for installation, and allows backing up with the system in place, which is not possible with all weight distribution systems.

For hitch ball you are likely going to need the 2" Hitch Ball # EQ91-00-6080 though there is also the 2-5/16" Hitch Ball # EQ91-00-6100. You are going to want to use the Thin Walled Socket # EQ70-00-4800 to make installing the hitch ball easier with this system.

The Fastway is rated for total tongue weights between 250 lbs and 600 lbs, which is correct for your setup because a 2015 Jayco Jay Feather x17z has an unloaded tongue weight of 340 lbs and the right weight distribution system is one in which your total tongue weight - the tongue weight of your fully loaded and ready to go trailer plus the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of your Dodge - would fall somewhere in the middle of the weight distribution system's tongue weight capacity. So even when fully loaded and with cargo behind your axle this is the correctly rated system.

I have added links to some video reviews of this system for you to take a look at.

I did want to mention quickly that the hitch on your Journey does need to be compatible with a weight distribution system; the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch # 75648 or Curt Trailer Hitch # C13201 will be what you need to have on your Dodge or you can check your current hitch as it may have a sticker which states if it is rated for weight distribution.
