Recommended Towing Mirrors for 1957 Chevy 210 Wagon

Question:

I have a 1957 Chevy 210 wagon. I am using it to tow a 16foot Shasta re-issued Airflyte trailer. The car does not have the original mirrors on the door and I cant use a strap-on for towing. No one seems to know if the CIPA 11650 Deluxe Door Mount mirrors will fit and not sure if they will damage the window track or the door. Will the Fender Mounts fit? Are they less damaging to the body then the door mount? Is the fender mount better or worse as far as vibration and visibility? If neither of the CIPA models will work is there a mirror on the market which will? Thanks,

Thanks for sharing your picture, it helped out a great deal.

For towing mirrors, I recommend the Cipa Door Mount # 11650 over a fender mount because of the style of your hood. The modern vehicles are made with hood lines closer to the outer edge of the vehicle which makes the fender mount design desirable. The reason you cannot find a confirmed fitment for your 1957 Chevy is because these products are universal in design compared to the custom fit line that are designed to fit over specific shaped mirrors.

It is possible that either mount can cause some damage if not installed properly. The clamps do have a rubber coating to help prevent this as well as a rubber pad on the back of the strap that contacts the door. To minimize damage you will want to make sure your door is free of any dirt and we typically recommend a fresh wash and wax. It is just the nature of the location of the mirror and the placement combined with the elements, to collect dust, dirt, and debris. You would want to remove when not using the towing mirrors and clean the area often. If it were me, I would try the Cipa # 11650 and install carefully not to damage the window track or door.
