Recommended Weight Distribution Hitch for V-Nose Rockwood 2618VS
Question:
Rockwood 2618VS. Gross: 7700lbs. With a front kitchen and allowing for a 10 to13 adjustment for tongue weight, would you recommend the 10000 or 12000 hitch capacity? The numbers get close to hitch capacity of the 100ET. Is too much hitch a detriment to handling? Also, would either of these hitches allow for bracket placement on the a frame of this V front trailer

Helpful Expert Reply:
Based on your Rockwood 2618VS gross weight, I recommend you go with the Equal-i-zer # EQ37120ET over the # EQ37100ET.
Tongue weight is typically 10-15 percent of the gross capacity so that puts your Rockwood at 770-1155lbs. Which the # EQ37120ET is much better suited for, you will want to fall within the middle of the weight capacity for best support. The Equal-i-zer weight distribution mounting brackets need to be positioned 27 inches to 32 inches back from center of coupler. If your Rockwood cannot accommodate that then I would instead recommend a system with chain hanger brackets like the # RP66084.
This Strait-Line System # RP66084 along with the chain hanger # RP58305 will fit your Rockwood as long as you have clearance to mount the anti sway brackets at 30 inches back from the hitch ball. The # RP66084 includes everything but a hitch ball for the weight distribution system, and they will depend on the coupler on your Rockwood. Two of the most common ball sizes that will compete this weight distribution system are the 2 inch # A-90 and the 2-5/16 inch # 19286.
