Question:

which 5th Airborne Air Ride Hitch or other brand will replace a Lippert 1716 hitch on a 2006 HitchHiker 32.5 trailer. I have 42 inches from the center of the hitch to the back of the cab and the trailer is 98 inches wide, would the sidewinder option be required ?

Good news! I can help you find the right 5th Airborne to replace your Lippert 1716 pin box.

The 16K # RP61412 Reese 5th Airborne will be a great fit for your 2006 Nu-Wa HitchHiker 32.5 trailer.

According to the clearance formula (A + B) - C = Clearance, (42 - 49 = -7) you will not have enough distance for turning clearance without a Sidewinder or AutoSlide 5th Wheel. With the extra 22 inches of clearance the Sidewinder provides then (42+22) - 49 = 15 inches of clearance.

A = Distance from the fifth wheel jaw center to the truck cab
B = Offset used (slider clearance or Sidewinder offset)
C = Width of the nose of the trailer divided by 2.

Another popular option to the Sidewinder is the Demco Hijacker AutoSlide # DM8550034. This 5th wheel unit. As you turn this hitch will give you an extended distance of 14 inches, which will provide you with adequate turning clearance when making sharp turns based on your measurements (42+14) - 49 = 7.

The Demco AutoSlide # DM8550034 is compatible with industry standard above the bed rails, For underbed systems you will want # DM8550022 and if you have a Ford Super Duty Prep Package you will need # DM8550024.

I have linked all the above mentioned products as well as a video on the Demco AutoSlide to this page for your convenience.
