Troubleshooting Installation of Equal-i-zer 10K Weight Distribution System EQ37100ET

Question:

Bought Equal-i-zer 10K Hitch. Assembled OK. But the sway bar sockets are frozen and appear painted over. With all my might pulling on the 3-foot sway bars and cannot get them to move horizontally. I can get an even bigger cheater but should I? Is there a better way? Stumped. Thanks for your attention and suggestion!

Thank you for your purchase of the Equal-i-zer 10K Weight Distribution System # EQ37100ET.

My contact at Equal-i-zer said that when the head unit is powder-coated the bar sockets are already in place, so it is quite possible that they could stick due to the powder coat acting a bit like glue. What you can do is loosen the nuts that hold the sockets; these are torqued at the factory to 100-ft-lbs to allow them to wear in well during the first few trips. Loosening these to 65-ft-lbs (but no less than that) should allow the bars to swing laterally.

After a period of use you will find things do move more easily. You will want to re-check the torque on those nuts after a few trips to ensure they are within the recommended range.
