Will Thule Fork Adapter TH535SKR Secure Open Forked Bike to the Thule ThruRide TH535?

Question:

I just purchased a Thule ThruRide 535 along with locking cylinders 2x. The bike I am using with this rack has a quick release front tire and the forks are therefore open-ended. With the included skewer provided in the ThruRide 535 you can easily just take the bike off of the rack because you do not need to release the skewer from the locking jaws of the rack. You can just twist the nut off pretty easily and lift the bike forks straight off. If I was to upgrade to the TH535SKR would that really prevent someone from doing the same thing? Can you just turn the skewer while holding the end nut in your other hand to loosen the whole skewer releasing the forks? TH535SKR is a bit of an investment as the product itself is $40 plus I would need to contact Thule directly to get another locking cylinder that would match the key to my existing set. Would it be cheaper and more secure to just put a cable lock through the frame and through my factory installed roof rack?

I have great news for you! The upgraded skewer is just what you need to secure your bike.

I went out to our warehouse and got the Thule # TH535SKR and took it to the installation bay where we have a bike just like yours and tested this out. The # TH535SKR has a unique end design that doesn't allow you to turn the knob, like you are able to do with the included skewer of the ThruRide TH535, even when the skewer isn't locked. Once the skewer is tightened down and locked the force of the pin against your bike even with open forks will secure this to the rack.

While this is great news, I have even better news for you. You will not need to contact Thule for another lock core to match your current set. All you need is the N# code, like N022, to find the correct matching lock core on our site. This will be displayed on the face of your current lock core or on a key. The corresponding core for the N022 lock is the # THLOCKN022. To insert this into the skewer you will simply need to use the control key included with the # TH535SKR to switch out the lock cores.

If you want to tell me your lock number you have, I would be more than happy to provide you with the part number for the correct core.

The cable lock method would work as well, but because of the toothed design grip on the locking skewer # TH535SKR this would be extremely difficult to remove from the grip it has on the bike. The Thule One Key cable lock # TH538XT would end up costing the same as the skewer and replacement core will, and would just add one more step in your routine. If it were me, I would invest in the skewer and the matching replacement core.

I have liked the above mentioned parts to this page for your convenience.
