Where to Place Fifth Wheel Rails in the Bed of a 1982 Chevy 1-Ton Truck
Question:
I have a 1982 crew cab 1 ton Chevy. I was wondering what the correct placement is for a fixed fifth wheel ball in the bed.I know it should be slightly forward of the rear axle but Im not sure by how far.

When installing a fifth wheel hitch with a universal rail kit like with what comes with the # RP30035 you will want to place the rails so that the center of the fifth wheel jaw is right above or slightly forward of the rear axle.
For your truck it is recommended to have it 3-1/2 inches forward of the rear axle.
To do this you will measure 34-7/8 inches from the rear edge of the truck bed. That is where the rear edge of the rear rail will be. You will use the hitch then to place the front rail.
