How to Activate Reverse Light Circuit of 7-Way on Ford F-350
Question:
Hi- My Forrest River trailer came with two spot lamps on rear of trailer. These can come on with internal switch or when tow vehicles backup lamps are lit. They do not illuminate when the tow vehicle is in reverse but trucks backup lamps are lit. On 2000 Ford F350 the trailer plug socket is designated as center round pin is for trailer backup lamps on the 7 pole socket. This pin shows zero voltage when trucks backup lamps are lit. On some forum I read Ford defaults this pin as zero voltage and leave out a relay on delivery. However Ive checked the owners manual and cannot locate any relay under the hood in either fuse or relay box. Even though the manual describes one, there is nothing close. Have you heard of this or is my leg being pulled again? Any recommendations how I can track this relay or _______ down? Thanks in advance. In the dark..

We are unaware of any relays needed to activate the reverse light circuit of your Ford truck 7-Way. What you would want to do is run a wire from the reverse light circuit of your truck to the center pin of the # TR118665 and then one side of the solenoid run 10 gauge wire like part # 10-1-1 to the center pin of the 7-way and on the other side go to the truck battery. This will give you a higher rated circuit for powering the spot lights on your trailer.
