Parts Needed to Flat Tow 2004 Honda CRV EX AWD

Question:

Were looking at either a Roadmaster or Blue Ox towing system for our Monaco Diplomat. We have a 2004 Honda CRV we want to tow. It is the AWD EX model. Can anyone tell us what parts and part numbers we need for a complete solution, so that we can budget it? Many thanks!

You will want to start with base plates for your 2004 Honda CR-V. I recommend the Roadmaster base plates, part # 1541-1. The removable drawbars, held in place with a pin and clip, make the baseplates virtually invisible when not towing your car.

For a tow bar I recommend the Falcon All Terrain Tow Bar, part # RM-522. This tow bar has a weight capacity of 6000 lbs and features the Freedom Latch for quick and easy disconnect.

In addition to the base plates and tow bar, you will also need safety cables, lighting, and a supplemental braking system for the CR-V. For safety cables, I recommend the coiled cables, # RM-643. The coiled design helps to keep the cables off of the ground.

For lighting, there are several options depending on your specific needs and how often you will towing the vehicle. I have included a link to an FAQ article that covers the various options so you can determine what would work best for you.

Most states now require a supplemental braking system on the vehicle being towed. The easiest to set up and use is the Roadmaster Even Brake, # RM-9400. This is a proportional system that applies the vehicle brakes in proportion to how much the towing vehicle is braking. This reduces wear and tear on both vehicles and is the safest way to stop.

I have included a link to our series of FAQ articles on flat towing for you.
