Since you do not have a factory 7-way connector on your 2016 Durango, there is no brake controller plug-in adapter and a brake controller will have to be hardwired.
If you have no trailer connector on your Durango I recommend part # 118617. This plugs into the vehicle wiring behind the tail lights. Then just run the hot lead wire up to the positive battery post.
You will then need part # ETBC7. This plugs into the 4-way connector and with additional wiring will give you a 7-way and a 4-way connector at the back of your Durango. I have attached a drawing that shows how a brake controller and the # ETBC7 wiring is run you can check out.
When working with electrical connectors I recommend using dielectric grease like part # 11755. This keeps dirt and moisture out of the electrical connections and helps prevent corrosion.
The brake controller I recommend is part # 90195. This is the Prodigy P3 controller. It is a proportional brake controller that applies the trailer brakes with the same intensity as the braking action in the towing vehicle. This is one of our most popular brake controllers because it is easy to install and operate.
