Recommended Trailer Connector for 2014 Honda Pilot

Question:

We have a tow package that came with our 2014 Honda Pilot, but no wiring for plugging in a trailer. I need to order whatever is necessary to get my pilot tow ready. There is some kind of plug, which I attached a photo of, but not sure what I need to order for that plug. Our trailer already has wiring and I attached that photo also. If you could please let us know what all we need to get through you we would greatly appreciate it.

To install a 7-way trailer connector on your 2014 Pilot, you'll need part # 118265. You won't need a bracket, as there's an area along side the hitch that can be opened up with a 2 inch hole saw. If you'd rather not do that, you can use a mounting bracket like # PK12711U can be used.

The 7-way would plug into the connector you found under the vehicle, you'll need to remove the protective cap before you can plug the 7-way into the connector. The rest of the procedure is explained in the installation instructions which I've linked for you.

If your trailer has electric brakes, and you want them to actuate, you'll need to install a brake controller. The Brake EVN, part # TK63VR in an inexpensive proportional controller that would work well unless your trailer has an electric over hydraulic coupler, in which case use the Tekonsha Prodigy P2, part # 90885. The controller would mount under the dash to the right of the steering column, within the driver's reach. The brake controller wiring adapter, part # 3070-P will allow you to plug the controller in to the connector located under the dash, to the left of the steering column, usually taped to another wiring harness.

If the trailer doesn't have brakes, you won't need a brake controller, and if the 4 pole trailer connector is functional, you can save a bit of money by simply installing the 4 pole connector on your Pilot, part # 118558.
