Cannot Fit Washer Between Castle Nut and Outer Wheel Bearing
Question:
I replaced the hubs on my trailer, and noticed that there was no washer between the castle nut and outer bearing. I bought new hubs, and castle nut / washer sets, but can not find any combination of washer / castle nut that allows me to get the cotter pin in. Is there a low-profile washer and/or castle nut made that addresses this, or am I dong something wrong? I tried on both wheels, with different hub assemblies, but have the same issue every time. I cant seem to find much on this subject. Thanks

If you had to go without a washer, it wouldn't be the end of the world. The washer is intended to place even pressure against the outer bearing, but if you draw down the castle nut properly, you can get by without a washer, but I'd try to find a thinner washer at your hardware store that would allow you to have enough clearance so the cotter pin can be installed.
