Determining Need to Replace Trailer Suspension Components
Question:
My camper is less than two years old and is garage kept, so there is very little wear on the suspension components. Im looking to upgrade the axle and springs. I know that you arent supposed to reuse the U-bolts. Do I need to replace my suspension bolts and shackle straps as well? This is for a single axle trailer.

Expert Reply:
If your shackle links, shackle bolts and hangers are all in good condition - meaning no obvious deterioration, damage or evidence of holes having become egg-shaped from wear - you could re-use them.
But in the scheme of things these parts' costs are fairly low so if you're going to the effort of upgrading your camper's suspension I suggest you eliminate any potential doubt/concern by replacing these items if you have any reason to think they're past their working lifespan.
If you are changing the width of your springs you will need to replace hangers and shackle bolts.
