Installing P2 Brake Controller On 2008 Damon Class A Motorhome

Many of the Damon motorhomes with a Ford Chassis came with the brake controller port. The P2, part # 90885 is a great brake controller. This is one of our most popular because it is easy to install and operate.

The port is located under the dash behind the instrument cluster and is tough to get to. If you find the port, you can use the plug-in adapter, part # 3035-P if the connector has 6 pins. If the connector has more than 6 pins you can use part # 3034-P.

If you do not have the port on your motorhome you will have to hardwire the brake controller. When installing the brake controller like the Prodigy P2, part # 90885, you will attach the red wire from the back of the brake controller to the cold side of the stop light switch. This is the side that only shows power when the brake pedal is pressed.

If your motorhome does not have a stop light switch, the best way to attach the red wire from the controller is to find the dedicated brake light wire. We have not had a chance to install a controller on a motorhome like yours so it may be best to contact your dealership to see where the brake light wire is. You would need to find the wire that shows power only when the brake pedal is pressed.

The blue wire from the controller will need to be run back to the 7-way connector like part # HM48470. The black wire will run to the positive battery post using a 20-amp circuit breaker inline, and the white wire will attach to the negative battery post.

If you have a 7-way connector at the rear of your motorhome, you will need a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 to check the connector pins by function. Have someone sit in the cab and run through the functions while you test the pins. Then you can replace the 7-way trailer connector on the motorhome with a connector that will match your trailer.
