Recommended Trailer Hitch and Wiring for a 1999 Mercury Mystique

what hitch and wiring do you recommend and are there any other additional parts needed that do not come with the wiring kits? Also how do you install the hitch and wiring kit?

For your 1999 Mercury Mystique, I would recommend the Curt Class I Receiver, part # C11113. The installation hardware is included with the receiver. I will provide a link below to the installation instructions. You will also need a Draw Bar # C45016.
You will need the appropriate trailer ball, if you do not already have one. The coupler on your trailer should have the necessary ball size stamped on it, which should be either 1-7/8 or 2 inch.
For a 1-7/8 inch ball I would recommend part # 19256, for a 2 inch ball use part # 19258.
To wire a 4-pole flat trailer connector to your Mercury, use the 4-Pole Hardwire Kit part # 18252. The wiring harness kit includes a tester to locate the correct tail light circuits and quick splices to tap into the wiring. We have an excellent installation video that will walk you through the process. The video shows the harness being installed on a different vehicle than yours, but the procedure would be the same. I will also provide a link to the video below.
Finally, if you are every carrying anything other than a trailer Curt requires a Support Strap # 18050 in order to be in compliance with their warranty.
