Replacement Trailer Tires for 2013 Jayco 1007 Popup Camper

Question:

I have a 2013 Jayco 1007 pop up camper. The GVWR for the camper is 2,550. The tires that came with it are rated below the GVWR of the camper. I have blown three tires on the camper in two years. I want to upgrade to a tire that is above the GVWR of the camper by at least 20. The current tires are 4-lug, 12 inch. Thanks for the advice.

I have a solution for you, but we do not have any 12 inch, 4 lug tire and wheel combos that will allow you to exceed the GVWR of your pop-up camper.

The only 12 inch trailer tire we offer that will allow you to exceed your trailer's GVWR is the Kenda Karrier S-Trail ST145/R12 Radial Trailer Tire # AM10140. This tire offers a weight capacity of 1,520 pounds at 80 psi.

Since I am not sure what size tires your camper currently has, the # AM10140 tires may be larger than the existing tires. When inflated, the # AM10140 will have an outer diameter of 21.3 inches. It is important to ensure you have enough clearance for the tires in the wheel well.

In replacing the wheel, though we can get close to matching the trailer's GVWR, we do not offer any 4 lug wheels that will allow you exceed the trailer's GVWR. The highest capacity 4-lug wheels we offer are the Americana Solid Center Steel Wheel # AM20102DX, with a weight capacity of 1,250 pounds.

These wheels would limit the capacity of the # AM10140 tires and leave you 50 pounds below your trailer's GVWR. Unless you load your pop-up camper to the very top of its maximum capacity, these wheels should work well with the # AM10140 tires for your camper.

Some other things that can play into tire wear are a bent axle, overloading the trailer, and worn or broken suspension components. I recommend checking the axle and suspension components to ensure they are in good working order. You will also want to ensure the tires are kept inflated to the max psi listed on the sidewall to maintain the weight capacity of the tire.

I have attached a help article on trailer tires for you as well.
