Torque Specs for Hitch Ball on Curt and Reese Friction Sway Control Units
Question:
I am unable to find the torque specs for the ball that gets mounted to the weight distribution head. LoOKs like it is a 5/8 diameter shank

Expert Reply:
I called my contact at Curt and asked about the torque needed for the ball that the sway control is attached to on the trailer hitch.
They told me that there has never been a torque listed but if you would torque it to about 150 ft-lbs it will have no problems. There is no torque value in the installation instructions.
The Reese kit part # 83660 requires 100 ft lbs of torque for the install of the ball.
