Items Needed When Flat Towing Honda Fit

Question:

I see the phrase can be towed as is. Some references indicate that engine must be run every 8 hrs, shift thru all gear positions. Would that be the general advise for any auto trans? I am considering 2011-2013 models of that vehicle with auto trans. Since the weight of this small car plus fully loaded m/h would be within the manufacturers GCVW limit, would an auxiliary braking system still be required? Thank you so much for your time. Trying to the smart AND affordable thing, here. Best,

You will want to check the owner's manual or with a dealership when you consider flat-towing the Honda Fit. Some manufacturers have restrictions as you mentioned for automatic transmissions versus manual transmissions. From my research I found that many people are flat-towing their Fits but the owner's manual from Honda does state the vehicle is not towable.

When flat-towing any vehicle there are 5 items you will need. You will need base plates for the vehicle, a tow bar, safety cables, lighting for the towed vehicle, and most states now require supplemental brake systems.

I have attached a couple helpful articles about flat-towing and supplemental brake systems you can check out.
