Question:

Should I cover the trail air pin box when not in use? Im thinking a canvas bag or similar material to protect the air pillow from the elements...

During the winter months it is definitely a good precaution to cover your Trail Air pin box. Apart from protecting the rubber air bag from the deteriorating effects of UV light you'll also help reduce entry of moisture and dirt that can lead to corrosion. Keeping out all contaminants will at the very least make springtime prep a little bit easier.

We do offer custom-fit molded plastic covers for two popular Lippert pin boxes, their 1621 and 1116, but these items such as # LC301458 will not fit your Trail Air pin box.

Ideally the cover you install will both prevent entry of rain/dirt and also use breathe-able fabric that will let moisture evaporate. We do offer vinyl covers for trailer A/C units, shown on the linked page, that are again intended for specific A/C unit applications but the dimensions of some of these cost-effective covers like # CAM45267 might let them work on your pin box.

Just about anything you place over the front end of the pin box - even if its a plastic drawstring trash bag or just a bit of canvas - will provide a worthwhile degree of protection. Since you own a premium-quality pin box it is an excellent idea to do what you can to keep it in its best shape.
