Trailer Has No Running Lights Connected to a 2002 Chevy Avalanche
Question:
When I plug in my trailer, I have turn signals and brake lights, but no running lights. Can you tell me what my problem might be? The hitch is factory installed. I have a 2002 Avalanche.

When troubleshooting lighting issues on a trailer it helps to isolate the truck and trailer to determine where the problem is. To do this you will disconnect the trailer from your 2002 Chevy Avalanche. Then you would use a circuit tester such as # PTW2993. I have linked a video showing the testing procedure.
If there is power on the running light circuit on the Avalanche, then the issue is on the trailer. If there is not power on the running light circuit, then the issue is on the Avalanche, likely a blown tow package fuse.
If you determine that the issue is on the trailer, then the first thing I would do is make sure the vehicle and trailer side connectors are clean and free of corrosion inside where the wires attach and outside on the pins.
The main trailer connector ground and the grounds for all of the trailer lights should also be attached to clean and corrosion free bare metal surfaces. If there is anything between a light ground and the metal trailer frame or if the trailer has an aluminum frame, tilt bed, or folding tongue, any of these things can interrupt the ground. Running jumper wires from the light grounds to the main trailer connector ground can help.
