Circuit Suggestions for Use with Isolation Circuit for Charging Trailer Battery
Question:
Hello, I have a 2015 RAM 2500 Diesel with 7-pin trailer connected to a 2015 dual axle Continental Cargo trailer with break-away battery for trailer brakes. I want to add house batteries for the trailer that are charged only when the towing truck is running. The 12V dome light in the trailer will light when the trailer and truck 7-pin is connected, even when the truck is not running when the light switch is turned on. So, I cannot use the wire that operates the 12V trailer light to connect to battery separator/solenoid PK5231201, correct? Since the starting batteries will charge the house batteries when the truck is not running. There is a yellow wire from the truck side 7-pin in the break-away battery box that is not connected to anything. I am having a hard time determining what that yellow wire is. Can I use that one? How else could I get a 12V power-when-running-only wire back to the trailer? Thanks in advance.

The trick to finding a circuit to use for an isolation solenoid like the part # PK5231201 so that the circuit is only active when the key is on is to find a circuit that is only on when the key is on.
Common circuits to use are radio, power antenna, ignition, traction control switch.
