Recommended 20K Sliding 5th Wheel Hitch and Install Kit for 2008 Dodge Ram 6 Bed Mega Cab
Question:
We are looking at buying a 5th wheel hitch. We have a 2008 2500 Mega Cab Dodge. I am going to install. I have heard about Reese, but not Curt. We are looking at at least 35foot even 38foot and think 20,000 lbs would be safe. We are going to put the trailer on property for a second home. Guess I am asking if Curt is okay. Thanks.

Reese and Curt both make quality 5th wheel hitches. At a given price point a Curt 5th wheel can tend to include more features than a similar Reese or Pro Series. For example, Curt A20 Sliding 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # C16541 features a 360-degree pivoting cushioned head. The Curt will make hitching easier (thanks to the 360-pivoting head) and deliver a smoother ride (thanks to the cushioning). The Curt A20 also has a smaller price tag AND a 10-year warranty, as compared to the Reese hitch's 5-year. Curt is among our main suppliers and you can be confident in their quality.
I recommend Curt's custom-fit installation rail kit # C16420-204, shown in the linked video, since it will work with any industry-standard hitch and since it requires no drilling into the truck's frame. For a wiring harness you can use # C56001 from Curt. This custom 10-foot harness plugs in-line with your existing factory wiring so that you can retain use of your Dodge Ram Pickup's factory 7-pole.
